EXCELLENCE AWARDEE:
The LEAP Legal Software Award for Family Law Firm of the Year
With a network of seven offices across Western Canada, MacLean Law has become the go-to regional law firm for unparalleled family law services. It opened over 300 family law files in 2022 and has set a new standard of excellence by focusing on complex and high-net-worth cases.
MacLean Law focuses on quality over quantity, and has been at the forefront of several landmark cases that have set new standards in the field of family law. These have included rare Mareva injunctions, Anton Pillar injunctions, perjury penalties, and special costs awards. In 2022, the firm secured one of the largest awards for a mother in a spousal support case and also achieved one of the highest interim distribution awards from a family business.
MacLean Law has been nominated for The LEAP Legal Software Award for Family Law Firm of the Year 2023. The firm has focused heavily on leveraging technology throughout 2022 and has implemented a range of enhancements to its legal services to stay at the cutting edge of the industry. Throughout the last 12 months, MacLean Law has made it easier for clients to access legal advice without having to visit an office in person – a move that has been particularly welcomed by rural clients.
The firm has created a conflict search application that will be supplied to other firms to help them speed up their intake and help clients access justice more quickly. It is also exploring the use of AI to enhance legal research and document review, allowing its lawyers to quickly review large quantities of data and pinpoint relevant information. Additionally, AI-generated reports have been used to highlight details that may have otherwise been missed in traditional research processes, and a new intake system has allowed MacLean Law to provide accurate and free legal advice to clients, as well as quality information for lawyers to start working on new cases immediately.
MacLean Law has been the recipient of numerous awards for its high-quality legal work, including several “Top Choice,” “Consumer Choice,” and “Three Best Rated” accolades. The firm’s founder, Lorne MacLean, KC, was also recognized by Business in Vancouver as one of Canada’s top 500 most influential businessmen and as one of the top 25 most influential lawyers by Canadian Lawyer for his impact on family law in British Columbia.
MacLean Law has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and actively seeks talent from a wide range of backgrounds to reflect the diverse communities that it serves. One of its articling students is a member of the Equality and Diversity Committee for the Canadian Bar Association, and the addition of the Honourable Justice Keith Bracken has provided “invaluable mentorship” to MacLean Law as it fosters the next generation of lawyers.
